Your Music... NaminéDemyx

It was too damn quiet in the castle, and Demyx heard her soft footsteps easily from several hallways away. He didn't bother to look up when Naminé was standing right above him until she said something.

"Why aren't you playing any music?" she asked softly, as if she were afraid to break the silence.

He glanced over his shoulder at her and smiled. "No one appreciates my music. I always get yelled at."

She walked around in front of him and sat down on the clean white floor along with him. He noticed that she was carrying an older sketchbook and a fresh box of crayons. She fidgeted, nervously opening and closing her box of crayons.

"I, uhm." She said quietly. Demyx leaned in closer. He liked her voice. It was very melodic and had even inspired a song or two. "To tell you the truth… I kind of can't draw without your music." Naminé looked down, as if she should have been ashamed of what she said.

Demyx was sure that was the cutest thing he's ever heard. He smiled and pulled his sitar into his lap, and he began to play.

Naminé grinned back at him, her cheeks brushed with pink. She flipped to the first page of her sketchbook and began to draw.

Pt. 2

Sketchbooks and scraps of paper were scattered across half of the expansive table. Some of the papers were neatly stacked in places, but for the most part the table was in disarray.

Naminé was seated in a chair at the head of the table, and Demyx was standing over her, grinning. She flipped through a sketchbook, her most recent one. She paused on a page covered in orange and red.

"It's Axel." She said. "He wanted me to draw him the day before he left, actually."

She was referring to when he left to kidnap Kairi. Demyx stood awkwardly for a few seconds before leaning in to get a closer look. Today he'd seen her drawings she'd done ever since she was born, and she had improved greatly. Her drawing of Axel actually looked like him, smirk and over-abundance of flames and all. Demyx never really got along well with him.

"I like it," he said sincerely. She smiled slightly and flipped to the next page. The next one was full of blues and greens, and Demyx couldn't help but say, "Aha!"

Naminé laughed. "Like it?"

He picked up the sketchbook. It was a drawing of him wielding water along with his sitar. He could see little Demyx clones in the background.

"You made me look like I could actually hurt someone." He joked. She smiled hesitantly, as if she wasn't sure how to take the compliment. He gave her back the book and she flipped through it some more.

They passed some drawings of heartless, dusks, roses and even the room around her. They were all very nice, and Demyx was really grateful that she was showing him her drawings.

Naminé started to flip to another page but stopped and snapped the sketchbook shut. "That's all." She said awkwardly, kicking back with her feet so the chair would scoot backwards. The back of the chair knocked Demyx in the knees.

"No, no, let me see." He insisted, reaching for her sketchbook. She tried to stop him, but he easily dodged her attempts and snatching her book back again.

Smiling, Demyx searched through the pages until he found the last drawing they had looked at. It looked like it was supposed to be a red-haired girl, Kairi, he presumed, but he could hardly tell because Naminé had gone over the drawing with a dark blue crayon. She didn't like how it had turned out, she told him. She gave up trying to stop him from looking at her drawing and just pouted in her chair.

He turned the page and paused. The date she had written was from yesterday. Yesterday she had approached him and asked him to start playing music, so she could draw.

And she drew him.

She had really managed to capture his love of music. He looked so blissful and she had managed to make the boring white hallway sparkle along with him. He stood still for a good few minutes, simply staring at it. Naminé started fidgeting again.

Demyx took a few steps closer to her and placed the sketchbook down in front of her. She inhaled sharply.

"You're brilliant, Naminé." He said. "That was the second most beautiful thing I've ever seen."

He ruffled her hair and walked out of the room.

Somebody to Love... RoxasYuffie

You don't know what you're talking about," I tell him.

He just shakes his head, blonde spikes bouncing, and says, "Yuffie, Yuffie. You're so naïve."

"I am not!" I protest loudly, stomping my foot. I cross my arms across my chest and give him my best 'I-am-Ninja-hear-me-RAWR' glare.

And he laughs.

"So is this some sort of childhood trauma or something?" he asks, tilting his head to the side and causing dark blonde locks to fall over his beautiful eyes. I blink, suddenly realizing he wanted me to answer.

"Oh!" I exclaim, still surprised at the opportunity he gave me. Worst mistake ever. "Well, yeah. When I was five someone dropped a hug bowel of ice cream on me." I sigh dramatically. "It scarred me for life!"

Another laugh. My god, I love it when he laughs. "So now you're absolutely terrified of an ice-cream parlor?" He says, shaking his head in an 'Oh-Yuffie-has-gone-insane-again-and-she's-being-ridicules' way. I have wonderful friends. "C'mon, Yuff. I'll pay!"

I want to choke him. "Roxas, I don't want a damn root beer float." I growl. I don't think I look too intimidating. Well, to him at least. I've known him for about five years, and sometimes my mom says it's like we're siblings. She told me once that she asked him what I wanted when I ran, screaming, into my room, telling them I wanted to be left alone and she thought there was some hidden meaning and Roxas just said, "She wants to be left alone. Duh. Oh, and a Hershey bar or two. I'd say three, just to be on the safe side."

…He… didn't walk very well for about a day after that.

The smile on his face is infuriating. "Yuffie," he reaches over and places a hand on my shoulder. "I said I'll pay. And, besides, it's my birthday soon."

"I never use the birthday thing!"

Oh, wait…

Yes I do.

He rolls his eyes. "You say 'It's going to be my birthday soon!' two months in advance."

Oh, I love you too, Roxas. Roxie.

Heh… Roxie…

I brush his hand off and switch to another glare. I haven't named this one yet, but it made a kid cry.

I think.

"Well, you want me to go with you because no other girls notice you," I counter.

He winces. "Not true." Right. "I want to go with you because you're my friend, Yuff."

Actually, he is right. About the friend thing, but also about the girls-don't-want-to-be-with-him thing. I kinda sorta scare off any girls who show any interest in him because, mostly, they're popular bitches who either a) want to hurt me 'cause I'll be 'jealous' or b) like him only because he's hot and he's a big skater dude.

And what's so wrong with calling your best friend hot?

"Please, Yuffie?" he begs. Huh. I could get used to this. His blue eyes flash malevolently, and he adds, "You've never tried a root beer float, have you?"

Shit.

I advert my eyes. "No, can't say I have…"

He leans in closer to me, and I know the all-knowing smirk he stole from Riku is plastered on his face. He's probably going to burp in my face or some other disgusting thing to make me go with him.

"It's a date then," Roxas whispers.

Then his lips brush against mine.

My eyes widen, and he pulls away and laughs nervously. Sure, all he did was give me the chastest of chaste kisses, but that really didn't stop him from turning a bright pink color.

"I'm… I'm sorry, Yuff," he says after a moment. I'm still in shock. "It's just that…"

I suddenly feel the urge to grab him and kiss him senseless.

But, hell, this is my BEST FRIEND I'm talking about here! Not some sex-god or something!

"It's alright," I say softly, suddenly feeling very shy. He looks at me expectantly. I laugh and say, "Now that I think about it, I don't know why we haven't done that sooner!"

His hand takes mine, and he smiles the smile I know he keeps just for me.

…I guess I can suffer through brain-freeze if he's with me.

Little Bird... NaminéAxel

She placed her hand on the paper. The setting sun cast a harsh shadow over her arm and distorted on the wall. Her skin was nearly as pale as the table; spider veins crisscrossed down her arm and disappeared. She lifted her palm upwards and dragged her fingers sideway, away from the window.

Naminé smiled.

She felt like rainbows were flowing from her fingertips and she loved every second of it. The power she felt was unimaginable. She controlled her own little world and could make the sky purple, the grass orange and the people a lime green and it would still be beautiful. She anticipated every stroke of the brush, every dash of a pen, with such lust that she couldn't stop at one and just needed more, more.

"What are you doing, little bird?"

Axel had his hand on the door. Light fluttered in streams around him.

Naminé looked down at herself. Her hands looked like a palette threw up across her knuckles. She had a large spot of yellow on her hip that was topped with green. She felt drying paint crack on her face and her knee was covered in purple.

She blushed. "Finger painting."

No Air... RoxasYuffie

"So I'm just a replacement, then?"

Yuffie glanced up at him, startled. She licked her dry lips (she absolutely refused and attempts Aerith made to make her wear lip gloss) and smiled sheepishly. "I was doing it again, wasn't I?" she asked. The ninja had a bad habit of unconsciously bringing up Sora in conversation.

Roxas fixed his grey-flecked eyes on her. Then he asked her something she thought had nothing to do with his pervious statement, "Do you love me?"

Yuffie opened her mouth to answer, but he cut her off.

"You don't love me, Yuff. You love Sora."

She frowned and looked into the sixteen-year-old's blue eyes. Last year, when she met him, she had developed 'feelings' for Sora when he had came back from a world he described as an 'endless meadow'. Everyone who knew about it thought she was drawn to Roxas because of his similarity—his connection—to the keybearer.

"I don't love Sora," she declared.

Roxas gripped her shoulders tightly. "Yes, you do. You won't stop talking about him."

She didn't miss the hurt in his voice.

Yuffie's frown deepened. The wind decided to blow, causing her to pull the jacket he had let her barrow when she had mentioned it was cold outside closer to her.

"I don't love him."

Roxas bowed his head, looking at the ground. She knew he was trying not to show weakness. "Tell me… what have I done for you?" he asked. The tenderness in his voice threw her off for a second.

But, really, what hadn't he done for her? Roxas always seemed to know what she wanted. Once she was starving and he bought her raman. Another time she had gotten in trouble for stealing (which she hadn't been doing at that store yet) and he had bailed her out. Roxas even found her a place to stay while she was in Twilight Town. He was just too nice to her.

Yuffie felt her eyes tear up—she had an idea where he was going. "Everything," she replied.

He looked up, locking his eyes with hers. "And what have you done for me?"

"I've given you hell," this tie a tear escaped, an rolled down her cheek. But Yuffie kept mostly a straight face.

"Do you know why I've stayed with you, then?"

Her shoulders would have started shaking if he had let her go. Yuffie's voice broke when she answered, "Because you love me,"

Roxas nodded solemnly. It was unnerving how calm he looked. Then he asked a question she didn't want to answer; "Do you still love Sora?"

She looked deep into his blue eyes. The eyes she loved. She couldn't lie to him. She couldn't lie. "I love Sora."

Roxas looked away, slowly removing his hands from her shoulders. Then he walked away.

Yuffie felt her legs give out from under her and she fell hard on her knees. She pulled the jacket around her tighter, unwilling to cry but her dark eyes unwilling to oblige. He was leaving her with nothing but memories.

"But I love you more…"
